NTSA Suspends Super Metro’s License Over Safety and Compliance Violations

Super Metro which is a leading public service vehicle (PSV) company in Nairobi, effective immediately. - Driver Qualifications: The credentials of drivers assigned to the company’s portal did not meet the required qualifications. This presents a significant road safety risk.
- Labor Law Compliance: The company was found in violation of Section 5(1)(e) of the Public Service Vehicle Regulations, failing to provide employment contracts, statutory deductions, and workplace safety measures.
Mandated Corrective Actions
To have its license reinstated, Super Metro must:
- Vehicle Compliance: Present 294 vehicles with violations for inspection at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.
- Driver Reassessment: Submit 42 drivers with speed violations for retesting at the Likoni Driver Test Centre. Previously, 64 of the company’s drivers failed a retest, leading to the suspension of their licenses.
- Labor Compliance: Provide signed employment contracts for all staff and proof of compliance with statutory deductions, including PAYE, NSSF, and NHIF.
- Safety Training: Conduct road safety sensitization sessions for all drivers, supervised by NTSA officers.

NTSA has cautioned the public against boarding Super Metro vehicles during the suspension period. The Traffic Department has been directed to impound any of the company’s vehicles found operating contrary to the suspension.
