Global Tourism Leader Adopts Rescued Baby Giraffe “Wajir” in Nairobi
A heartwarming conservation moment unfolded in Nairobi this week. Specifically, former World Travel & Tourism Council President Gloria Guevara officially adopted a three-month-old giraffe named Wajir at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage.
Furthermore, the adoption took place as part of her involvement with the Kenya Wildlife Service Wildlife Adoption Program during a high-profile visit to Kenya, accompanied by local tourism officials.
Wajir’s Rescue Story
The giraffe’s journey to the orphanage began under difficult circumstances. Specifically, rescuers found Wajir in Wajir County when she was only two weeks old, after her mother abandoned her.
Where the Adoption Took Place
The ceremony unfolded at a significant conservation site. Specifically, the adoption occurred at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, a critical rescue and rehabilitation facility located within the grounds of Nairobi National Park.
Conservation Support Beyond the Adoption
The visit went beyond a single adoption. Specifically, members of the delegation, including former Kenyan Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, pledged personal financial contributions, such as Ksh100,000, to support local, hands-on conservation efforts.
