Trump: Putin Agrees to Ukraine Peace Talks After Two-Hour Call
In a significant development, President Donald J. Trump has announced that Russia and Ukraine will begin peace negotiations immediately following a two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump described the conversation as “excellent” in tone and outcome, signaling a potential turning point in the years-long conflict.
According to the president, both parties have agreed to pursue a ceasefire and an ultimate end to hostilities, with conditions to be negotiated directly between Moscow and Kyiv.
“Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War,” President Trump said in a statement. He added that the war must end “sooner rather than later” to unlock both nations’ massive trade and economic opportunities.

President Trump framed the peace effort economically, stating that Russia and Ukraine stand to gain through post-war trade partnerships, particularly with the United States. Trump revealed that he had informed key international figures about the planned negotiations, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and leaders from France, Italy, Germany, Finland, and the Vatican.
