Rish Kamunge Arrested After Fake Overseas Jobs

Flashy Tiktoker Mary Kamunge, also known as Rish Kamunge on social media, has been accused of swindling millions of shillings from unsuspecting jobseekers while posing as a travel agent and overseas recruiter.
Through her agency, Trustpin Travel Agency, located along Moi Avenue in Nairobi’s CBD, Rish is alleged to have heavily advertised fake job opportunities abroad to her thousands of social media followers.
How Rish Kamunge Defrauded Unsuspecting Kenyans
Many ambitious Kenyans, eager to change their lives and seek opportunities overseas, parted with between Ksh 200,000 and Ksh 400,000. The fee was to cover airfare, agency fees, and other costs. However, upon arrival in countries like Mauritius, some victims were shocked to find that they had neither jobs nor valid documents.
This left them stranded without accommodation. Mauritius authorities were forced to deport the helpless jobseekers back to Kenya after they spent several days with no food or proper shelter.

According to Faith Nasimiyu one of the victims said. “The agency informed me to pay Ksh. 80,000 and another Ksh. 145,000 for flight to Mauritius.” She went on to say, “on arrival they were informed that they did not have right documents and they were deported back to Kenya.”
On Wednesday, March 26, a group of defrauded Kenyans stormed Kamunge’s Nairobi office. This is they demanded full reimbursement after realizing they had been conned and were now left in debt without any jobs.
Rish Kamunge is currently in police custody, with further investigations ongoing into the matter.
Other Job Scam Scandals
In the last one year, Kenyans have been duped by travel agencies. A businessman in Eldoret duped unsuspected individuals seeking for employment in Canada Ksh. 10 million. However, the business owner was arrested early this year and was arraigned in court.
This has been a common occurrence in Kenya lately with individual losing hundreds of thousands and some millions . This is while looking to secure jobs abroad. As for Rish Kamunge she is still in custody waiting for her arraignment.
