Why from Mike Muchiri to Ziya?
Content creator Mike Muchiri has unveiled what has been termed as a dramatic rebrand, identifying as Ziya. The move has now successfully wiped his entire archive of comedic content from social media. In what appears to be a personal metamorphosis in the content creation world.
This comes after weeks of online speculation sparked by a photo of Muchiri wearing a crop top. His choice of clothes ignited curiosity and criticism in equal measure from netizens. While the photo drew widespread arousal. Muchiri had previously hinted at having the urge to live in alignment with his inner child and future self.
Muchiri took to his Instagram page with a cryptic caption: “Ziya. What’s in a name? Watch closely.” His bio now reads, “I was someone else before. Now, I’m Ziya. And this is just the beginning,” indicating a break from his past demeanour.
Reason Why Mike Changed His Name to Ziya
The change was necessitated by an uncharacteristic break from content creation. This was followed by a complete purge of his skits including the widely loved Mama Maiko series in March 2025. He has maintained only three photos on his Instagram, one being the crop top image, and another captioned “NAFSI HURU.” This loosely translated “Free Spirit”, indicating a fresh start in identity and purpose.
Muchiri’s sudden disappearance from comedy was met with concern from fans with many speculating about the toll of online backlash. Some fans expressed both sadness and support, others feared they may never see another Mama Maiko video again.
Initially, Muchiri had successfully crafted out a niche in the digital space. This is by blending his biomedical knowledge with humor to entertain and educate. He encouraged the youth to venture into content creation alluding to the fact that the creative industry handsomely rewards.
New Chapter
Ziya now seems to be stepping into a new chapter. One which is less of a performance and more about the realities of life. In a statement following the rebrand, he reflected on a journey of healing and self satisfaction.
Ziya’s transformation alludes to a deeper evolution beyond content which harnesses commitment to self-compassion, vulnerability, and a free willed life.
Will this be a new frontier for Ziya or a decline to his strong online presence? Only time will tell.
