President Ruto Fires Justin Muturi.

President William Ruto has dismissed Justin Muturi as Public Service Cabinet Secretary, replacing him with Mbeere MP Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku.
Chief of Staff Felix Koskei announced the decision through a statement, marking the end of months of tension between Muturi and the president.
Muturi’s Rift with Ruto
Muturi had increasingly clashed with Ruto, criticizing the government over the abductions and killings of Gen Z protesters in June and December 2024—an issue that hit close to home after his own son became a victim.
He even requested an excuse from Cabinet meetings until authorities addressed extrajudicial killings and police abductions.
Recently, Muturi defended his stance, stating that calling out government wrongdoing was part of his sworn duty as a public servant and should be commended rather than punished.
Ruto Breaks Silence, Labels Muturi ‘Incompetent’
For weeks, Ruto had avoided commenting on the growing rift. However, on Tuesday, during an Iftar dinner at State House, Nairobi, he openly criticized Muturi’s performance.

The president accused Muturi of incompetence, particularly for failing to establish the Muslim Endowment Fund (Waqf) during his tenure as Attorney General. Ruto stated that Muturi’s inefficiency denied the commission the ability to manage Islamic endowments effectively.
With Ruku’s nomination, the government now seeks to reset the leadership of the Public Service docket amid ongoing political tensions.
