Chelsea Edge Past Tottenham as Postecoglou Makes Unwanted History.

Chelsea returned to the Premier League’s top four after a narrow 1-0 win over rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. While it wasn’t a classic, the result spoke volumes. Spurs’ manager Ange Postecoglou made history for all the wrong reasons as the first Tottenham boss to lose his first four league games against the Blues.

Early Pressure From Chelsea

The action started fast.

Chelsea almost took the lead in the opening minute. Trevoh Chalobah launched a dangerous ball towards Nicolas Jackson. A deflection from Micky van de Ven almost gifted Jackson a goal, but the ball cannoned off the post.

Tottenham’s defense looked unsettled. Marc Cucurella slipped a pass through to Malo Gusto, but his shot only found the side netting. Minutes later, Jackson had another golden chance. Left unmarked in the box, he fired over the bar.

Meanwhile, the Spurs’ goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, looked shaky. He was lucky to escape after a fierce cross from Jadon Sancho, who was picked out well by Pedro Neto.

Goalless at the Break

Despite Chelsea dominating the early chances, the first half ended 0-0. Tottenham struggled to get forward, while Chelsea lacked a finishing touch.

Fernández Breaks the Deadlock

Chelsea finally made their pressure count.

In the 50th minute, Enzo Fernández rose high to head home a perfect cross from Cole Palmer. The breakthrough was deserved and lifted the crowd at Stamford Bridge.

Just moments later, it looked like the Blues had doubled their lead. Moisés Caicedo smashed in a brilliant volley after Tottenham failed to clear a Fernández free kick. But after a lengthy VAR review, the goal was ruled out for offside.

VAR Drama and Missed Chances

Tottenham thought they had equalized dramatically. Pape Matar Sarr’s long-range strike slipped past Robert Sánchez. However, VAR had the final say again, this time chalking off the goal for a foul on Caicedo during the build-up.

Late in the game, Son Heung-min had a golden chance to equalize. He slid in to connect with Brennan Johnson’s low cross, but Sánchez denied him with a crucial save.

Stats That Tell the Story

  • Chelsea has now won 10 of their last 13 league meetings with Tottenham.
  • Spurs recorded their ninth away defeat of the season—only Leicester City (11) and Southampton (12) have more.
  • The result leaves Tottenham 14th in the table, a worrying slide for Postecoglou’s men.

Final Thoughts

This wasn’t the goal-fest fans have come to expect from Chelsea vs Spurs clashes. But for Chelsea, it was a job well done.

They took their chance, kept their cool, and walked away with three vital points. For Tottenham, the defensive issues continue—and the pressure on Postecoglou is starting to mount.
