KRA Launches New USSD Service for Taxpayers

Easy Access to Tax Services
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has introduced a new USSD service for taxpayers. Moreover, the service allows access via basic mobile phones without visiting KRA offices.

How to Use the Service
Taxpayers can dial *222# to access the system. Additionally, the rollout aims to improve efficiency during the upcoming tax filing season.

Services Available
The USSD service offers PIN registration, Turnover Tax, Monthly Rental Income, ETIMS, and payments. Furthermore, taxpayers can access Tax Compliance Certificates, Customs, and other returns.

Addressing Digital Barriers
KRA acknowledged challenges with internet access and digital expertise. Consequently, the USSD system ensures no Kenyan is left behind due to technology barriers.

PIN Retrieval and Checking
The system enables taxpayers to recover old KRA PINs. Additionally, PIN checking will be vital during tax filing.

Reducing Physical Visits
The USSD service reduces the need for taxpayers to visit KRA offices. Ultimately, this move aims to improve compliance and convenience nationwide.

Example of Access
By dialing *222# and selecting Option 5, taxpayers can retrieve or check PINs. Moreover, services remain accessible without smartphones or internet connections.

Upcoming Validation Exercise
KRA will validate income and expenses declared by taxpayers. Additionally, figures will be checked against TIMS/eTIMS invoices, customs records, and withholding tax data.

Timeline for Validation
The first validation will apply to 2025 returns filed via iTax. Consequently, taxpayers must submit returns before June next year.
