Super Metro Ban Lifted

The Transport and Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) has lifted the suspension of the Super Metro operating license, allowing the bus company to resume operations.
Why Was Super Metro Suspended?
The SACCO suspension came after a reported incident on Thika Road, where a tout allegedly assaulted a passenger, leading to their death. Following this, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) halted the company’s operations last week.
Appeal and Court Ruling
On March 18, SuperMetro challenged the suspension, arguing that NTSA failed to provide notice of any charges related to accidents from January to March 2025. The company also claimed it was denied the right to respond before the suspension was enforced.
Dr. Adrian Kamotho, the TLAB chairperson, ruled in favor of Super Metro, stating that the suspension was based on extraneous evidence and violated the principles of natural justice. He also noted that punishing the entire SACCO for the actions of a few individuals was unfair.

Immediate Order to Resume Operations
The board issued an interim order reinstating the SACCO license, pending a full hearing on March 27. The ruling directs the Inspector General of the National Police Service to ensure compliance.
The SACCO argued that the suspension was unreasonable and could damage its reputation. The company maintains that NTSA’s decision was unfair and lacked due process.
What’s Next For Super Metro?
The full hearing on the case will take place on March 27. Until then, they are back on the roads, with strict adherence to safety regulations.
