Gachagua Assassination Claim: Ruto Sent Them to Kill Me

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made startling allegations, claiming that President William Ruto orchestrated a plot to assassinate him. At his Karen residence on Monday, May 19, 2025, Gachagua asserted that state-sponsored officers had explicit instructions to eliminate him. This is during a church service in Gatanga, Murang’a County, on Sunday, May 18. The Gachagua assassination claims come after DCI officers were hunting him for the better part of Sunday, May 18, 2025.
“While attending a church service in Gatanga Constituency yesterday. I received intelligence reports that there were orders to have me dealt with once and for all,” Gachagua stated.
He further claimed that the government intended to use “biological weapons” to impair his mental abilities over three months gradually. Gachagua alleged that previous attempts by state-sponsored individuals to silence him had failed, leading to a direct intervention by police and other security agencies.
“Since the goons sponsored by the state on several occasions had failed. Police and other state security agencies had to come in,” he added.

Gachagua also revealed that he received intelligence from sympathetic police officers indicating plans to plant arms and weapons in his convoy to fabricate charges against him. He claimed that he had to alter his travel routes to avoid being apprehended and disarmed, which would have left him vulnerable to attacks.
How the Assassination Plot on Gachagua was Thwarted
“We received further intelligence from the deployed patriotic officers who were not in agreement with the evil mission that they had clear instructions to plant arms and weapons in our convoy to provide evidence to arrest us and get evidence that they could charge us with in court,” he said.
These allegations follow Gachagua’s impeachment in October 2024, following a deterioration in his relationship with President Ruto. He was impeached on five of eleven charges, including corruption and undermining the President and Cabinet.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Gachagua to record a statement regarding his claims of assassination attempts. In a letter dated October 21, 2024, the DCI stated, “These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly.” Gachagua will appear at the DCI Headquarters to facilitate prompt and thorough investigations.
Gachagua’s allegations have intensified scrutiny of President Ruto’s administration as political tension escalates. Thus raising concerns about political figures’ safety and state institutions’ integrity.
