Festive Season Ends, Schools Prepare
As the festive season concludes, families finish travels and reunions. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the new school term.

Millions of Learners Resume Classes
Millions of learners will return to classrooms next week for the first term of the 2026 academic year. Consequently, the long December holiday officially ends.

Busy Academic Cycle Begins
The reopening marks the start of a busy cycle for learners in pre-primary, primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary schools. Additionally, universities and tertiary institutions resume learning.

Ministry Confirms Opening Dates
According to the Ministry of Education, most schools will reopen before January 10. Furthermore, the official calendar sets January 5, 2026, as the start date.

First Term Schedule
Learners will study for 13 weeks before closing on April 2, 2026. Afterward, they will proceed on a three-week April holiday.

Half-Term Break Announced
The ministry confirmed a half-term break between February 25 and March 1, 2026. Therefore, students and teachers will enjoy five days off.

Parents Prepare for Reopening
For parents and guardians, the festive season doubles as preparation time. Moreover, they purchase uniforms, books, and supplies ahead of reopening.

Competency-Based Education Transition
2026 is unique as the pioneer Competency-Based Education cohort transitions to junior secondary. Grade 10 learners will report to schools by January 12, 2026.

Examination Results Released
Education CS Julius Ogamba announced 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA exams. Specifically, 578,630 were boys, while 551,829 were girls.

KEMIS Guidelines Enforced
All schools must admit Grade 10 learners through KEMIS. Additionally, principals cannot register learners before physical reporting.
