Rigathi Gachagua Faces Manhunt Over 2007 Violence Remarks and IEBC Threats

In collaboration with other security agencies, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have reportedly launched a search for the Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader. The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his controversial comments related to the 2007 post-election violence.

According to sources close to Gachagua, DCI officers surrounded the politician’s residences in Karen and Wamunyoro on Sunday evening. This is just a day after a viral interview with content creator Obinna aired on YouTube.

In the live interview, Rigathi Gachagua issued a fiery warning to officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). This is by cautioning them against alleged plans to manipulate the 2027 general elections.

“If the IEBC tries to mess with the 2027 elections, there will be no country here, and 2007 will look like a Christmas party,” Gachagua said. “I want to urge the IEBC Commissioners to be Kenyans and be patriotic and not to attempt to force William Ruto on the people of Kenya. It will not work.”

The remarks sparked an immediate backlash from government officials, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen condemning Rigathi Gachagua’s statements as dangerous and inciteful.

“Some think they are above the law, and we cannot arrest them. Nobody under my watch will return this country to what happened in 2007,” Murkomen stated. “Such remarks are inciteful, and we will not allow such terms .”

Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached from his deputy presidency amid ongoing political turbulence, has remained a divisive figure. His allies claim the state is using security forces to silence dissent ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

The DCI has yet to issue an official statement regarding the alleged search. Though sources indicate that investigations into possible incitement to violence are underway.
