Mystery as Man Found Dead in Kisii Church Toilet

A 56-year-old man was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances inside a church toilet in Nyamemiso, Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County. Police identified the deceased as Barnabus Machoni Kitoyi, whose body was found in the Christ Nyamemiso Church compound.

Body Discovered with Cloth Tied to Roof Rafter

According to a police report, officers found Kitoyi’s body inside the toilet with a black piece of cloth tied around his neck and fastened to the roof rafter. Additionally, a machete had been placed conspicuously on the toilet door, raising further questions about the nature of the incident.

Moreover, police noted that the scene appeared undisturbed, suggesting that the toilet might not be the primary crime scene. This observation prompted investigators to consider the possibility that the body was moved after death.

Signs of Possible Struggle Observed

Officers reported that the deceased’s stomach was swollen and his shirt was blood-stained around the collar. The blood is believed to have oozed from his mouth, indicating that Kitoyi may have suffered injuries before his death. These findings strengthened suspicions of foul play.

Police also established that the deceased lived alone in a semi-permanent house approximately one kilometer from the church where his body was discovered.

Body Moved to Mortuary as Investigations Begin

Authorities transferred the body to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will help determine the cause of death. The results are expected to guide the direction of the investigation.

Ongoing Land Dispute Emerges as Possible Motive

Preliminary reports indicate that Kitoyi had been involved in a land dispute with neighbors. The matter, currently before the Kegati Chief’s Office, was scheduled for hearing on December 8. As investigations continue, detectives are exploring whether the dispute may be linked to his death.
