Rigathi Gachagua Launches New Party, DCP

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially launched his new political party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
The launch event occurred on May 15, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi. This comes just three days after Gachagua resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the ruling party under President William Ruto.
Gachagua said the new party’s primary focus is on ordinary Kenyans. He described DCP as a platform for people who feel excluded by mainstream politics. The party’s slogan, “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans), reflects that mission.
The DCP logo features a hand cupping an ear, symbolizing its promise to listen to citizens. The party’s colors are neon green, brown, and white.

During the launch, Gachagua named several key interim leaders. Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala will serve as Deputy Party Leader. Former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi is the National Organizing Secretary. Also, former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru is the party’s National Women Leader.
The new party also announced plans to form special councils representing women, youth, diaspora communities, and religious groups.
Gachagua’s move is part of his strategy to rebuild political influence, especially in the Mt. Kenya region. Political analysts say DCP could become a strong player ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He announced that a significant public launch event will be held on June 4, the venue of which will be revealed soon.
With this new party, Rigathi Gachagua is clarifying he’s not giving up on politics. He’s starting and betting that Kenyans are ready for something different.
