JKUAT Wildcats secured their first league victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Sliders at Dashmesh Stadium.
JKUAT beat Sliders 2-1 to revive their survival hopes, while Strathmore Scorpions and UoN Vigilantes also secured victories in the Women’s Premier League.
JKUAT Wildcats claimed their first victory of the 2026 Kenya Hockey Union Women’s Premier League season.
The university side defeated Sliders 2-1 at Dashmesh Stadium to boost their fight against relegation.
Joy Kyallo and Tabitha Njeri scored for Wildcats in a closely contested encounter.
Meanwhile, Charity Masimbo equalised for Sliders before Njeri restored Wildcats’ lead shortly before half-time.
The victory did not lift Wildcats from the bottom of the standings.
However, it gave the team a much-needed breakthrough after a difficult opening to the campaign.
Before the win, Wildcats had collected only one point from a 2-2 draw with the University of Nairobi.
Wildcats Respond After Heavy Defeat
JKUAT entered the match seeking a response after a 5-1 defeat to Kisumu Queens on Saturday.
Wildcats had taken a seventh-minute lead in that match but failed to protect their advantage.
Against Sliders, Samuel Oungo’s side showed greater defensive discipline while maintaining pressure in attack.
The long-serving Kenya Police defender coaches the university team.
As a result, Wildcats created several opportunities while limiting serious threats around goalkeeper Jael Murumba.
Sliders also arrived seeking a response after losing to former champions Blazers Hockey Club on Saturday.
However, neither side found the net during the opening quarter.
Kyallo and Njeri Deliver
Wildcats finally broke the deadlock in the 20th minute.
Kyallo beat the Sliders defence and goalkeeper Diana Nzuku to score from open play.
Four minutes later, Sliders responded through Masimbo.
She converted a penalty corner to level the contest at 1-1.
Wildcats quickly regained their advantage before the interval.
Njeri converted a penalty corner seconds before half-time to make it 2-1.
Consequently, all three goals arrived during a lively second quarter.
Wildcats Hold On for Victory
Neither team added another goal after the break despite creating scoring opportunities.
Instead, Wildcats protected their narrow advantage through the second half.
The result gave JKUAT their first league victory after seven matches.
With 11 fixtures remaining, the university side still has opportunities to improve its position.
Although Wildcats remain bottom, the victory provides a boost in their battle to retain Premier League status.
Scorpions Beat Kisumu Queens
Elsewhere, former champions Strathmore University Scorpions defeated Kisumu Queens 1-0.
Nicole Joy scored the only goal in the 45th minute to secure the victory.
The result ended Queens’ momentum after their convincing win over JKUAT on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Scorpions strengthened their position among the league’s top three sides.
Vigilantes Complete Comeback
University of Nairobi Vigilantes also secured a second victory of the season.
They came from behind to defeat Amira Sailors 3-2 in another entertaining contest.
Clementine Nyongesa, Love Nanjala and Jane Mango scored for Vigilantes.
On the other hand, Monica Kitui scored twice for Amira Sailors.
However, her brace could not prevent Vigilantes from completing the comeback.
The result gave the University of Nairobi side another valuable three points in the Premier League campaign.
