Detectives are examining the circumstances of the deaths and ownership of a firearm recovered from the Chania Avenue apartment.

Police are investigating the Kilimani apartment deaths of two foreign nationals discovered on Tuesday morning along Chania Avenue, Nairobi.

Officers identified the deceased as Nguyen Hong Ngoc, a Vietnamese woman, and Xu Zhiyu, a Chinese man. They found both bodies at Meteor Garden Apartments after management reported hearing gunshots.

Police said the apartment manager heard gunshots at around 10am, prompting officers to respond. The apartment was reportedly locked from inside, so management used a spare key to enter.

Inside, officers found the two bodies with suspected gunshot wounds. Investigators also recovered a pistol, ammunition, two spent cartridges and a handwritten note.

Police suspect the document could be a suicide note. However, investigators have not confirmed its significance or established the full sequence of events.

Investigators await postmortem examinations

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the apartment before the transfer of the bodies to Chiromo Funeral Parlour. Postmortem examinations remain pending.

Meanwhile, police are examining the circumstances of both deaths, a possible motive and ownership of the recovered firearm. Those inquiries will form part of efforts to establish what happened inside the apartment.

Investigators are considering whether one person killed the other before taking their own life. They have also raised a possible suicide pact as a theory, but that remains unconfirmed.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths therefore remain unclear as police continue their investigation.
