Barcelona produced a stunning second-half performance to beat Galatasaray 4-1 away at Istanbul’s Ali Sami Yen Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Lamine Yamal played a decisive role in the victory, creating several chances as Barcelona recovered from a difficult first half. The result strengthened the Spanish side’s position in the competition after securing two wins from their opening matches.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick praised Yamal’s influence, highlighting the teenager’s ability to change the course of a match.
Galatasaray Test Barcelona Early
Barcelona controlled much of the opening period but struggled to find space against Galatasaray’s disciplined defence. Yamal faced close attention on the right flank, forcing the visitors to explore other attacking options.
Galatasaray capitalised on a counterattack to take the lead in the 27th minute. Aleksei Batrakov’s effort deflected off Joao Cancelo before beating goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
The hosts then threatened to extend their advantage when Victor Osimhen headed a corner towards goal. However, Baris Yilmaz’s attempt to force the ball over the line was ruled offside.
Barcelona eventually found their response through Cancelo. After a defensive mistake, Dani Olmo released the Portuguese defender, who finished to restore parity.
Yamal Sparks Barcelona’s Second-Half Revival
Barcelona returned from the break with greater attacking intent, and Yamal quickly became the driving force behind their comeback.
In the 50th minute, the winger delivered a precise cross that Fermin Lopez headed into the net. The goal gave Barcelona the lead and shifted the momentum firmly in their favour.
Three minutes later, Yamal produced another moment of brilliance. He beat Eren Elmali with a series of quick movements before setting up Anthony Gordon, who finished from close range to make it 3-1.
Yamal continued to create problems for Galatasaray’s defence as Barcelona searched for more goals. His movement and passing repeatedly opened spaces for his teammates.
Gabriel Jesus Seals Barcelona’s Victory
Barcelona added a fourth goal in the 65th minute through Karim Adeyemi. The substitute struck after Gabriel Jesus failed to control a pass from Yamal, allowing the ball to fall into his path.
Despite creating several opportunities, Yamal finished without scoring. However, his influence remained central to Barcelona’s attacking display.
Flick praised the quality of his squad while acknowledging the attention surrounding the young winger. Meanwhile, Lopez described Yamal as an outstanding teammate and highlighted their strong understanding on the pitch.
Barcelona Strengthen Their Champions League Position
The victory lifted Barcelona to the top of the Champions League standings after two wins. Galatasaray, meanwhile, remained without a point following their latest defeat.
Yamal also continued to demonstrate his growing leadership role at Barcelona. The teenager had already become the club’s youngest-ever captain in the previous round and again wore the armband after Pedri’s substitution.
Although he missed out on a goal, his creativity helped Barcelona secure an emphatic away victory. The performance offered another reminder of his importance as the Catalan club pursue European success.
