President William Ruto says voters should judge leaders on their programmes as he pledges accountability for his administration’s 2022 manifesto.

President William Ruto challenges opposition leaders to explain how they would deliver their promises, accusing them of seeking power without responsibility.

Speaking at a roadside rally at Chekorio Trading Centre on October 15, Ruto urged his competitors to present clear governing plans. He said Kenyans expect leaders to explain their priorities and account for commitments made during elections.

Ruto challenges opposition over governing agenda

Ruto accused his political rivals of avoiding detailed programmes because they did not know how to implement them. He argued that seeking electoral victory should also mean accepting responsibility for delivering on campaign pledges.

The President said voters should assess political leaders through the agendas and programmes they offer. His challenge therefore centred on both the promises competitors make and their ability to carry them out.

Meanwhile, Ruto pointed to the manifesto his administration presented to voters ahead of the 2022 General Election. He said it outlined priorities covering poverty, climate change, drug abuse and access to housing.

He also said he was ready to account for each chapter of that manifesto. Ruto described those commitments as the basis on which Kenyans chose his administration in 2022.

The President extended that responsibility to other leaders within his government, saying they must answer for implementing the election pledges. He maintained that accountability should begin with him and cover the agenda his administration offered voters.

His remarks placed delivery alongside electoral promises, with Ruto calling for scrutiny of both his administration and its competitors.
