The Nairobi gala celebrated Rwanda’s cultural heritage and community ties.
Rwandans and friends of Rwanda celebrated cultural heritage through sports, traditional performances and a business exhibition at Utalii Sports Club.
About 500 Rwandans and friends of Rwanda gathered for the second Rwanda Cultural Gala and Exhibition in Nairobi. The event at Utalii Sports Club promoted cultural heritage and strengthened ties within the community.
The programme brought together sports competitions, traditional performances and displays by Rwandan entrepreneurs. It also gave community members an opportunity to celebrate their roots and engage with one another.
Sports and performances at Rwanda Cultural Gala
Participants competed in football, volleyball and igisoro, a traditional board game, before joining the evening celebrations. Top-performing teams in each category then received awards.
Meanwhile, traditional dances, songs and drumming highlighted Rwanda’s cultural identity during the celebrations. These performances offered participants a platform to showcase their heritage alongside the sporting activities.
Community leaders call for cultural preservation
Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Ernest Rwamucyo, thanked the diaspora committee for organising the gathering. He also urged Rwandans living in Kenya to uphold their national values and preserve their cultural heritage.
Rwamucyo encouraged community members to maintain connections with their roots while promoting Rwanda’s cultural traditions. Dr Innocent Butare, chairperson of the Rwandan Community in Kenya’s leadership committee, echoed that call. He also emphasised the importance of preserving Rwanda’s positive image.
Entrepreneurs showcase products and services
Alongside the cultural programme, Rwandan entrepreneurs displayed their products and services at the exhibition. The business showcase highlighted the community’s commercial activities and created opportunities for engagement among participants.
The gathering therefore combined cultural celebration with a platform for community businesses, reflecting its focus on stronger ties.
