Oburu Odinga Fires Back at Edwin Sifuna

ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has strongly criticized Secretary General Edwin Sifuna following his recent Citizen TV interview. Specifically, Oburu dismissed claims questioning the legitimacy of ODM’s current leadership. Moreover, he insisted that no individual stands above the party or its constitution.

Oburu Defends ODM Leadership

In a firm letter released on Friday, Oburu accused Sifuna of creating confusion within the party. He argued that the Secretary General has repeatedly blurred personal opinions with official party positions. Consequently, Oburu said such conduct misleads ODM members and supporters nationwide.

Furthermore, Oburu maintained that all current ODM officials serve legitimately. He emphasized that party organs properly endorsed the leadership through lawful resolutions.

Dispute Over Election Legitimacy

Oburu directly addressed Sifuna’s claim that he was not duly elected as party leader. He rejected the allegation, stating ODM has always respected its constitution and internal processes.

Additionally, Oburu reminded Sifuna of his own rise within the party. He noted that the National Governing Council elected Sifuna as Secretary General in 2018. Later, the National Delegates Convention endorsed him in 2022 without objection. Therefore, Oburu argued that Sifuna’s current position contradicts his earlier acceptance of party procedures.Sifuna and Oburu

Growing Divisions Within ODM

However, Oburu did not clarify whether disciplinary action against Sifuna is under consideration. Meanwhile, ODM remains divided over its future political direction.

One faction supports cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance. Another faction, led by Sifuna, urges ODM to chart an independent political path.

Notably, Sifuna has vowed not to resign as Secretary General. He insists only a delegates’ conference can decide his fate and guide the party.

Ruth Odinga Weighs In

Meanwhile, Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga defended Sifuna publicly. She questioned why dissenting views now attract accusations of rebellion.

She compared Sifuna’s stance to Raila Odinga’s historical resistance within coalition governments. Consequently, she argued that questioning an unhonored political agreement is not treasonous.Ruth Odinga

Party Tensions Persist

Ultimately, the exchange highlights growing tension within ODM’s top leadership. As debates intensify, the party faces critical choices about unity, democracy, and future alliances.
