Oburu Odinga Clarifies DP Talks as ODM, UDA Intensify 2027 Negotiations

ODM leader Oburu Odinga has dismissed claims that he wants the deputy president’s seat. However, he confirmed active negotiations with UDA ahead of 2027.

Oburu spoke in Kisumu during the issuance of Nyota funds. He appeared alongside President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Oburu Addresses Deputy President Speculation

Oburu assured Kindiki that ODM is not plotting to remove him from office. Nevertheless, he insisted that negotiations must secure a fair political share. He emphasized that ODM will not accept less than what its supporters deserve. Therefore, the party plans to negotiate firmly but peacefully.

Although he ruled out personal interest in the seat, he defended ODM’s right to compete. Consequently, he left room for future political bargaining.

ODM Pushes for 50-50 Power Sharing

Speculation intensified after ODM leaders demanded equal power sharing with UDA. Gladys Wanga previously insisted that any coalition must guarantee a 50-50 arrangement.

Meanwhile, President Ruto confirmed that UDA would retain the presidency in 2027. However, he avoided discussing the deputy president position.

That silence fueled rumors about Kindiki’s political future. As a result, observers closely watch ongoing coalition talks.

Assurance for Kindiki, Strategy for ODM

Oburu’s latest remarks appear to calm fears within UDA ranks. Therefore, Kindiki now receives public assurance ahead of the next election cycle.

At the same time, ODM signals it will pursue other senior government roles. Party leaders argue that negotiations must reflect regional balance and fairness.

Oburu Criticizes Opposition Strategy

Additionally, Oburu questioned the opposition’s readiness to defeat Ruto in 2027. He argued that critics lack a clear national strategy. He also praised government programs that he said benefit citizens across Kenya. Consequently, he promised constructive dialogue during coalition discussions.

Ultimately, ODM and UDA negotiations may reshape Kenya’s political landscape. Meanwhile, leaders frame the talks as peaceful steps toward a stable 2027 election.
