Congolese singer Angelik de Doter draws on five languages in her music.
The Congolese singer, who grew up in Uganda, draws on her roots and personal experiences ahead of her planned release of For Your Love.
Congolese singer Angelik de Doter is blending five languages with Afrobeats and Afro-pop as she develops her sound. Her next single, For Your Love, is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.
Born Neema Chikonza, the singer and songwriter grew up in Uganda and draws inspiration from her Congolese roots. She also uses personal experiences to shape songs centred on emotions, relationships and relatable stories.
Angelik de Doter draws on five languages
Her musical range spans English, Kiswahili, French, Lingala and Luganda, reflecting the cultures that inform her work. Together, these languages give her room to explore different sounds and connect with varied audiences.
That approach supports her ambition to reach listeners across East and Central Africa, as well as beyond the continent. Meanwhile, Afrobeats and Afro-pop provide the rhythmic foundation for her expressive melodies and storytelling.
For Angelik, however, making music involves more than creating songs for the dance floor. She wants to express feelings and share experiences that listeners can recognise in their own lives.
Independent releases and a new single
Angelik released her earliest work through her own independent label, Angelik Music. Her catalogue includes Kyempulira and True Colors, with the latter carrying a release date of June 19, 2026.
Her planned follow-up, For Your Love, points towards love and human relationships through its title. Those themes also fit her broader interest in using personal experiences as material for songs.
As she seeks a wider audience locally and internationally, Angelik hopes to build a lasting music career. At the same time, she aims to retain her cultural roots and artistic vision.
Her multilingual approach forms part of that ambition: music that travels across borders while keeping personal storytelling at its centre.
