Police say they found 39 cannabis stems in Kariobangi North and several rolled joints on a second suspect.
Two men have denied drug charges following a police raid on an alleged cannabis farm along the Nairobi River. The case concerns a concealed riverbank plot in Darfur, Kariobangi North Estate.
Thimphil Odhiambo faces a charge of cultivating cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang. Meanwhile, Collins Odongo Odero faces a separate charge of possessing narcotic drugs.
Police outline cannabis farm allegations
Police said residents alerted them to an illicit crop growing along the riverbank. Officers then went to the site on October 9, 2026, where they allegedly found Odhiambo tilling the plot.
The charge sheet lists 39 cannabis stems with an estimated value of Sh10,000. It also states that the plants were not for authorised medicinal use.
Odhiambo faces prosecution under Section 3(2) of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. Police also alleged that Odero had several rolled bhang joints when officers arrested him.
Both men appeared before magistrate Jumwa Maiya at Makadara Law Courts and denied their respective charges. Their case will proceed to a hearing on December 11, 2026.
Father denies assaulting son in separate case
In a separate matter, a 50-year-old Nairobi man faces charges of assaulting his 20-year-old son. The young man has lived with paralysis since he was one and cannot speak.
Sospeter Muyesu-Vusara appeared in court over an alleged attack on March 31, 2026, in Ruai Manyatta, Njiru Sub-county. Court documents allege that he assaulted his son while making remarks dismissing the young man’s worth.
The complainant’s mother told police she was away when the alleged assault occurred. On returning, she found her son on the floor with severe head swelling and vomiting.
She then took him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he spent six days receiving care. Police subsequently arrested Muyesu-Vusara following her report.
Family members also alleged that he had subjected members of the household to prolonged physical and emotional abuse. Those allegations remain claims by the family.
However, Muyesu-Vusara denied the assault charge before magistrate Jumwa Kimaiyo. He attributed the case to a misunderstanding and claimed his wife had pressed for his prosecution.
The court granted him cash bail of Sh30,000. His case will return for mention on December 11.
