Mordecai Dex held his first solo showcase, DEXCLUSIVES*, at The Alchemist.
Mordecai Dex launched his first solo showcase, Mustafa celebrated 25 years in music, and Idd Aziz joined the Frequency line-up in Kilifi.
Kenya concerts brought solo milestones, musical reunions and coastal dance sounds to audiences in Nairobi and Kilifi. Mordecai Dex staged his first solo showcase, while Mustafa celebrated 25 years in the entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, European-based Kenyan singer Idd Aziz returned home for Frequency at Kilifi Club after performances in Europe. Jamaican artiste Charly Black also added an international presence through appearances at local entertainment venues.
Kenya concerts: Dex takes the solo spotlight
Mordecai Dex, one-third of H_art the Band, held DEXCLUSIVES* at The Alchemist on October 11. The showcase marked a new step for the singer after 14 years in entertainment.
His solo work runs alongside his involvement with H_art the Band and Kodong Klan. Rather than leaving those groups behind, Dex has continued developing an individual musical identity alongside those collaborations.
For the showcase, he centred the programme on his own catalogue, including familiar songs and rarely performed tracks. Newer material also gave fans more of his music to experience live.
Early-bird tickets sold out before the event, and the crowd danced and sang along with the artistes. Meanwhile, members of H_art the Band, Kodong Klan, Njerae and other personalities attended the gathering.
Dex’s recent ViBES & LoVE SoNGS EP has also expanded the material available for his solo performances. Together with his wider catalogue, it forms part of a creative path that continues beyond his group work.
Mustafa marks 25 years with Marya reunion
Mustafa celebrated his own career milestone on October 10 at Imperial Chambers Lounge, off Kiambu Road. His event combined a look back at 25 years in entertainment with a reunion involving singer Marya.
Marya, his former partner and musical collaborator, appeared at the celebration. The pair previously worked together on the 2009 hit Hey Baby, giving their reunion a link to his earlier music.
Before the show, Mustafa announced their return to the same stage. That appearance added a personal element to an evening focused on his long career.
Nazizi, Mr Nice, Kenrazy and Kenzo Matata were also among the names associated with the event. The celebration connected artistes from different generations as it revisited Mustafa’s years in Kenyan entertainment.
Frequency brings dance sounds to Kilifi
On the Coast, Frequency brought Idd Aziz together with MGM, Shangatatu, Ella, Teekay, Iko Power and Nina. Kilifi Club hosted the event, which combined a coastal setting with a varied dance-music programme.
The musical range covered Afro House, Afro Tech, Deep House, Amapiano and 3-Step. For Aziz, the Kilifi appearance followed his European performances and brought his music back to a home audience.
Elsewhere, Charly Black’s appearances at Kenyan entertainment venues drew fans interested in seeing the Jamaican performer. His visit added another international act to the local entertainment circuit.
