Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna will have the final say on the party Linda Mwananchi uses in the 2027 General Election.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale made the remarks on Monday as the movement prepares for its next political step.
The decision follows Linda Mwananchi’s endorsement of Sifuna as its leader and presidential candidate.
According to Khalwale, leaders discussed several political parties before handing the final decision to Sifuna.
Sifuna to Decide Political Vehicle
Khalwale said Linda Mwananchi leaders examined the strengths and weaknesses of several parties.
However, they failed to reach an agreement on which party to adopt.
As a result, the leaders resolved to give Sifuna authority to make the final choice.
The Nairobi senator could select one of the parties already considered or introduce another option.
Meanwhile, Khalwale said the movement’s leaders would support whichever party Sifuna chooses.
He linked the decision to Sifuna’s role as the movement’s presidential candidate and leader.
Consequently, the senator will oversee the political vehicle through which he intends to pursue his 2027 bid.
Linda Mwananchi Plans Party Unveiling
Linda Mwananchi endorsed Sifuna during a leadership retreat held on Saturday, September 26.
The movement said its principals had agreed to work together and recognised Sifuna as their presidential candidate.
Additionally, Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the party on whose ticket he plans to contest the presidency.
The movement expects to make the announcement in early October.
That unveiling will therefore clarify the political vehicle linked to Sifuna’s 2027 presidential bid.
UDP Remains Among the Options
The United Democratic Party (UDP) has emerged as one of the parties linked to Sifuna’s plans.
Earlier, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya said Sifuna would contest the presidency through UDP.
However, Khalwale’s latest remarks indicate that the final decision remains with Sifuna.
The Star has also reported that Sifuna’s team had settled on Ukombozi Party, which is linked to the former UDP.
Therefore, the party’s formal unveiling remains important in determining the vehicle Sifuna will use.
Movement Eyes Wider Political Coalition
Beyond choosing a party, Linda Mwananchi plans to work with other political formations.
The movement has said it intends to build a coalition with parties that share similar objectives.
At the same time, its leaders continue preparing for the 2027 General Election.
The political calendar has added urgency to those preparations, with parties facing key electoral compliance deadlines.
According to the movement, Sifuna will lead the party unveiling in early October.
For now, Khalwale’s remarks place the final party decision with Sifuna as Linda Mwananchi prepares for the next phase of its 2027 campaign.
