DJ Lyta Says Kenyans Blame Him for Failing KCSE Because of “Hot Grabba”

Kenyan entertainer DJ Lyta has gone viral once again, this time for a hilarious admission about his cultural impact. Specifically, he joked during a recent interview that the only blame he ever receives comes from former high school students.

Furthermore, these former students claim his addictive mixtapes were the sole reason they failed their national examinations.

The Joke Behind the Blame

DJ Lyta did not shy away from the accusation. Specifically, he lightheartedly accepted responsibility, joking that instead of holding onto their books, students were too busy vibing to his seamless transitions.

Therefore, he quipped that they ultimately failed to “grab” the grades they needed.

Why “Hot Grabba” Hit So Hard

The mixtape series became more than just music. Specifically, released in multiple volumes including Hot Grabba 3 and Hot Grabba 4, these street mixes dominated Kenyan matatus and high school entertainment sessions, locally known as “enta.”

Consequently, the series became deeply woven into the everyday soundtrack of an entire generation of Kenyan youth.

Why Kenyans Can’t Stop Talking About It

The nostalgia runs deep online. Specifically, former high schoolers frequently react to this quote on social media, confessing they could easily memorise every song introduction and audio transition on the mixtape.

However, they struggled to recall basic school subjects, such as chemistry’s periodic table.
