Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has officially declared his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. Mosiria announced his bid on Sunday, October 11, 2026, during a church service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries in Nairobi. The service was hosted by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and attended by Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and other political leaders.

The county official pledged to address Nairobi’s persistent challenges if elected. He also cited his experience in health, environment and customer service as preparation for the county’s top office.

His declaration places him in the race against his current boss, Governor Johnson Sakaja, who has indicated his intention to seek re-election.

Mosiria Proposes Margaret Wanjiru as Running Mate

During his address, Mosiria proposed Bishop Margaret Wanjiru as his potential deputy governor. He suggested that the two could work together to improve Nairobi if voters elected him governor. However, the reports reviewed did not confirm that Wanjiru had formally accepted the proposal.

Wanjiru has her own political ambitions and has been mentioned among potential contenders for the Nairobi governor’s seat.

Cites Experience in County Government

Mosiria defended his record in Nairobi County, pointing to his previous responsibilities in health and environment before his current customer service role.

He said his work in the health department helped improve access to critical care and medicine. He also highlighted his efforts to address cleanliness and sanitation during his time in the environment docket.

In his current role as Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Mosiria says he handles residents’ complaints and assists vulnerable women and children. He argued that his experience across the three departments had prepared him to lead the county government.

Pledges to Complete Unfinished Projects

Mosiria also promised to draw from the development manifestos of former Nairobi governors Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko.

He argued that the two former governors had left projects unfinished and pledged to complete their proposed development programmes if elected.

His campaign message centres on improving service delivery and addressing problems affecting Nairobi residents. These commitments remain campaign promises rather than completed or independently verified outcomes.

Nairobi Governor Race Takes Shape

Mosiria’s declaration adds another name to the growing list of politicians associated with the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial contest.

Potential contenders include incumbent Johnson Sakaja, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.

Makadara MP George Aladwa has also featured in discussions surrounding the race. Matiang’i’s meeting with Mosiria after the declaration has drawn further attention to the political realignments taking place ahead of the election.

However, the presence of a politician in discussions or meetings does not necessarily establish a formal campaign alliance.

Mosiria Sets Sights on City Hall

Mosiria’s announcement signals his intention to challenge for Nairobi’s top county office in 2027. He is positioning his experience in county administration and promises of improved service delivery as central parts of his campaign.

The race is expected to attract further attention as aspirants clarify their party affiliations, running mates and development agendas ahead of the election.
