The Kirinyaga woman representative brings Senator James Kamau Murango and MCA David Mathenge into a music video about romance and commitment.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has released Hit and Run, featuring Senator James Kamau Murango and Baragwi Ward MCA David Mathenge. The song tackles romantic relationships in which one partner enjoys affection but avoids commitment.

Maina released the track on Thursday, October 22, 2026, pairing its dating message with a humorous video. She encourages listeners to spot warning signs before investing emotionally in someone unwilling to build a shared future.

Hit and Run video brings Kirinyaga leaders together

The video features playful scenes filmed at a resort and along the beach in Mombasa. In one sequence, Maina rides a quad bike while a man playing a potential suitor pursues her.

Meanwhile, Murango and Mathenge take acting roles alongside their fellow Kirinyaga leader. The senator plays a wealthy man, while the ward representative portrays a watchman.

Maina said the two politicians joined the production after the team struggled to find models in Mombasa. She also thanked them for agreeing to take part in the shoot.

The collaboration puts all three county leaders in an entertainment project rather than their usual political setting. Their appearances support a story that uses humour to explore romantic pursuit and uncertain intentions.

A return to music after university

Although Maina is widely known for politics and legal advocacy, she pursued music before entering public office. During university, the trained lawyer used the stage name Carola Jayne and had an association with Grandpa Records.

However, her legal studies and political ambitions took priority, leaving the song unrecorded for years. She has now revived the project and released it on YouTube.

During a Facebook Live session on Thursday, Maina credited Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Baby Top with encouraging that return. She said the presenter challenged her to go back to the studio, prompting her to revisit the song.

Maina also explained that music, art and creativity remain important to her personal fulfilment despite public office demands. Voters elected her Kirinyaga woman representative in the 2022 General Election on a United Democratic Alliance ticket.
