West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka says Kuwait’s donation has supported school construction in Nyamira County.
The West Mugirango MP says the funds were released in 2023 under President William Ruto, with 13 schools completed in his constituency.
West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka has accused former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta’s administrations of delaying a Kuwait-funded school project in Nyamira County.
Mogaka claims the Kuwait government donated about Sh1.9 billion to improve school infrastructure across the county.
He made the remarks in Nyamira while discussing the progress of education projects supported through the Kuwait-funded programme.
According to Mogaka, Kuwait offered the funding to recognise Nyamira residents who sheltered families displaced during the 2007/08 post-election violence.
He alleges that the previous administrations failed to make the funds available for the intended projects.
Mogaka further claims the government released the funds in 2023 under President William Ruto.
However, he did not provide details on how the previous administrations allegedly delayed the funds.
Kuwait Funding Targets Nyamira Schools
Official project records put the approved Kuwait funding at Sh1.9575 billion.
The project aims to improve infrastructure in schools across Nyamira County.
Government information published in 2023 indicated that the programme targeted 68 schools.
The planned works included classrooms, administration blocks, laboratories, libraries, dormitories and water facilities.
Meanwhile, the project has faced implementation delays in recent years.
Nyamira leaders raised concerns in 2026 after selected schools failed to benefit fully from the planned facilities.
Mogaka Reports Progress in West Mugirango
Mogaka said 13 schools in West Mugirango have completed projects under the programme.
He linked the progress to the release of the Kuwait funding.
The MP also said the new facilities would ease congestion and improve learning conditions.
Additionally, he pledged to pursue more funding for unfinished projects.
Mogaka did not disclose the additional amount required to complete the remaining works.
MP Credits Kuwait and Ruto
The West Mugirango legislator thanked Kuwait for supporting education infrastructure in Nyamira.
He also credited the Ruto administration with facilitating access to the funds.
However, his remarks did not provide documentary details explaining the alleged delays under the Kibaki and Kenyatta administrations.
The wider Kuwait-funded programme has continued to face concerns over slow implementation.
Nyamira leaders have since called for faster completion of the projects to improve learning conditions across the county.
