Police Probe Discovery of Woman’s Body in River Sasala
Police in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County, have launched investigations after residents discovered the body of an unidentified woman in River Sasala at Ewamakhumbi village in Ingotse–Matiha Ward. The shocking incident has raised concerns over possible foul play in the community.
Residents Discover Suspicious Sack in the River
According to witnesses, the discovery occurred when residents noticed a suspicious sack floating downstream.
Upon pulling it to the riverbank, they saw that it contained human remains. They immediately alerted local authorities, triggering a police response.
Body Too Decomposed to Identify
Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the body was severely decomposed, making identification extremely difficult.
Because of the advanced state of decomposition, investigators believe the body may have been in the water for several days.
Local Authorities Begin Investigations
Area Deputy Chief John Andati Barasa confirmed the incident. He said police have already begun gathering evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Moreover, investigators aim to establish how the body ended up in River Sasala and whether a crime occurred elsewhere before the dumping.
Police Appeal for Help in Identifying the Victim
To support the investigation, Barasa urged families with missing female relatives to visit the Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary.
He said identifying the victim is critical to uncovering her last known movements and tracing persons who may have interacted with her before her death.
Community Urged to Remain Vigilant
Authorities are encouraging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities.
Additionally, police have assured the public that they are committed to establishing the truth and bringing anyone responsible to justice.
