Residents gathered at Migwena Grounds in Bondo for Raila Odinga’s first anniversary commemoration.
Attendees at Migwena Grounds called for an update on the ODM leader, while Catherine Omanyo maintained that he was well.
Residents attending Raila Odinga’s first anniversary commemoration demanded answers about Oburu Odinga’s whereabouts and health on Thursday. The ODM leader missed the gathering at Migwena Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County.
A section of attendees chanted his name, seeking an update on the late former prime minister’s elder brother. Their calls came amid public interest in his health and absence from recent family and party engagements.
Oburu Odinga misses family commemoration
His absence had also drawn attention during the commissioning of Raila’s mausoleum in Bondo. That occasion brought together Odinga family members, close associates, national leaders and other invited guests.
Ahead of the anniversary gathering, reports had indicated that Oburu would not attend. Kisii Governor Simba Arati was expected to deliver a speech on his behalf.
However, questions about the ODM leader persisted at Thursday’s event as attendees called out his name. They sought clarity on his condition as they gathered to honour his younger brother.
Omanyo says ODM leader is well
Meanwhile, ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo’s assurance on Tuesday remained the latest public update on his condition. She dismissed concerns circulating on social media and said Oburu was well.
Omanyo also said she expected him to head home either that day or the following day. She criticised people seeking social media likes and views through claims about his health.
Her remarks offered reassurance ahead of the commemoration. However, the calls from some attendees on Thursday showed that they still wanted answers about his whereabouts and health.
