Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna attended CUEA’s 45th graduation ceremony.
Graduation attendees cheered Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the vice-chancellor acknowledged his presence at the university ceremony.
The Sifuna CUEA welcome drew loud applause on Friday as the Catholic University of Eastern Africa held its 45th graduation ceremony. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna received cheers when Vice-Chancellor Prof. Elias Omondi Opongo acknowledged him among those attending.
The reception comes as Sifuna eyes the presidency in the 2027 election. He has also attracted growing attention among young Kenyans who view him as a possible alternative to the current leadership.
Sifuna CUEA welcome highlights growing profile
The senator’s outspoken criticism of the government has helped raise his political profile. His message has particularly drawn attention among voters seeking political change.
However, the enthusiastic reception comes alongside unresolved questions about his path to a presidential challenge. Opposition leaders have yet to agree on a single candidate to face President William Ruto.
Sifuna therefore faces the task of securing the political backing needed to mount a serious campaign. Meanwhile, Ruto has increasingly criticised the senator in recent days.
Hamida Kibwana earns master’s degree
Beyond the political attention, the ceremony also brought together leaders celebrating the university’s graduates. Nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana was among those graduating, receiving a Master of Arts degree.
Professor Kivutha Kibwana, Chancellor of the African Leadership University, also attended the ceremony.
