SRC Denies Responsibility for Harambee Stars Coach Benni McCarthy’s Salary

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has dismissed claims by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) that it is responsible for paying Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy’s salary.

Last week, FKF alleged that SRC was handling McCarthy’s remuneration, but the commission has firmly distanced itself from these claims, clarifying that it has no mandate to pay or determine the salary scale for the national team’s coach.

SRC Refutes FKF’s Claims

“I have checked, and there is no such arrangement. SRC has never been involved in paying national team coaches as civil servants. If this were the case for Harambee Stars, other federations would demand similar treatment,” said an SRC official.

The official further emphasized, “If McCarthy is receiving a salary, it would be through FKF or a direct agreement with the Ministry of Sports, not SRC. This matter is beyond our mandate.”

Clarification on Benni McCarthy’s Salary

Following McCarthy’s recent appointment as Harambee Stars’ head coach, rumors surfaced that he would be earning Ksh 8 million per month, including allowances. However, FKF swiftly denied these reports.

Jeff Kinyanjui, FKF’s Director of Communications, stated via Facebook, stating:

“There have been false reports claiming Benni McCarthy will be earning Ksh 8 million a month. To be clear, this is inaccurate.

The coach’s salary is paid by the government and falls under SRC guidelines. Even the entire technical bench does not earn such an amount collectively.

Let’s uphold responsible reporting and avoid misleading the public. Spreading misinformation not only misguides fans but also distracts from the real work of supporting our national team. Let’s focus on facts and back the team constructively.”
