UDA aims to recruit at least 20 members per polling centre to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

UDA grassroots elections in Kisii and Nyamira aim to recruit about 47,000 village-level officials ahead of the 2027 General Election. The United Democratic Alliance wants the recruits to mobilise supporters and coordinate local party activities.

The party targets approximately 30,000 officials in Kisii and another 17,000 in neighbouring Nyamira. It plans to recruit at least 20 members at every polling centre and give them specific responsibilities.

UDA grassroots elections focus on polling centres

UDA National Treasurer Japhet Nyakundi is leading the party’s national office team during the ongoing exercise. He said the recruits would represent different socioeconomic groups within their communities.

Nyakundi described the recruitment as an effort to build the party from the village level upwards. Under this approach, polling-centre teams will organise supporters and help strengthen UDA’s presence across the two counties.

The officials will also coordinate party activities within their respective areas. Nyakundi said the network would help UDA maintain connections with communities through members working at the local level.

He described the county recruitment targets as part of a deliberate strategy to establish a presence in every village. The combined target of about 47,000 officials reflects the scale of the party’s planned local network.

Higher-level party polls to follow

After completing the village-level exercise, UDA plans to hold elections for higher party positions within the next two months. Nyakundi said this sequence would allow the party to build its structures from the bottom upwards.

For now, the ongoing polls focus on selecting members who will take responsibility for mobilisation at polling centres. Those teams form part of UDA’s effort to strengthen its organisation before the 2027 national vote.
