Ulinzi Starlets secured a 2-1 victory over Vihiga Queens at Mumias Sports Complex.
Beverline Adika scored twice as Ulinzi Starlets beat Vihiga Queens 2-1 in Mumias, while Kibera Soccer Women also maintained their winning start.
Ulinzi Starlets maintained their perfect start to the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over former champions Vihiga Queens at Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday.
Beverline Adika scored both goals for last season’s runners-up, who followed their opening 2-0 win over Gideon Starlets in Homa Bay with another victory. For Vihiga, the result brought a second consecutive defeat after their 3-1 loss to top-flight returnees Mathare United Women FC on the opening matchday.
The contrasting starts continued as Ulinzi protected their advantage despite a second-half response from the hosts. Vihiga remain in search of their first points after conceding five goals across their opening two matches.
Adika makes the difference after the break
Neither side scored in the first half at Mumias, leaving the contest level at the interval. Ulinzi broke through soon after the restart, with Adika finding the net in the 48th minute.
She struck again eight minutes later, completing her brace and giving the visitors a two-goal cushion before the hour mark. Those two goals ultimately proved decisive in securing Ulinzi’s second win.
Josephine Werenga reduced the deficit for Vihiga in the 74th minute, giving the home side a chance to recover something from the match. Ulinzi, however, held on through the remaining minutes to leave Mumias with the victory.
Kibera extend winning start
At Police Sacco Ground, Kibera Soccer Women FC beat Mathare United Women 1-0 in their derby, ending the returnees’ winning start to the campaign.
Anna Arusi scored the only goal in the 66th minute. Her finish secured a second successive narrow victory for Kibera, who had opened their season by beating Trinity Starlets by the same scoreline at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
Kibera therefore joined Ulinzi in winning both of their opening fixtures. Mathare, meanwhile, were unable to build on their impressive first-match victory over Vihiga Queens.
Shabana win as Bungoma and Gideon draw
Bungoma Queens and Gideon Starlets collected their first points of the season after a goalless draw at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. Both teams had lost their opening fixtures and neither found a breakthrough in their second outing.
On Saturday, Shabana Starlets secured their first victory by defeating Elim White Ladies FC 2-0. Christine Machuka scored both goals to give Shabana a winning result after their opening 2-2 draw with Kayole Starlet.
The victory kept Shabana unbeaten across their first two games, with Machuka’s brace accounting for the full margin against Elim White Ladies.
Police Bullets target another victory
Defending champions Kenya Police Bullets FC are scheduled to face Zetech University Sparks at Dandora Stadium as they pursue their second win of the season.
Police began their title defence with a 6-0 victory over Bungoma Queens. They also beat Zetech both home and away last season, providing a strong recent record against their next opponents as they look to follow up that emphatic opening result.
