Wafula Chebukati Burial. Chebukati’s Body Arrives in Kitale

The body of Wafula Chebukati the former IEBC chairman arrived in Kitale through the Kitale airstrip on 7th March. His body was received by his family, friends, and political leaders. On arrival it was taken to his Kapomboi home in Kitale for viewing by family and the public.
Thereafter, it will be taken to his Sabata home, Kiminini constituency, Transnzoia county.
When Did Wafula Chebukati Die?
Wafula Chebukati died on February 20th after a long illness. According to his family the late IEBC chairman died due a heart attack at a Nairobi hospital while undergoing medical treatment.
After viewing of the body by family, friends, leaders, and the public on 8th. The body will be moved to his Sabata home in preparation to his burial.

Chebukati’s Burial Controversies
With local and national leaders expected to be present during the burial of Wafula Chebukati. There’s tension as leaders across the political divide are expected to joust their political muscle.
A show is expected between the governor of Trans Nzoia George Natembeya and the speaker of national assembly Moses Wetangula. This is after their previous encounter during the burial of the mother of Wetangula two months ago.
Additionally, on Monday the governor claimed that a host of political leaders from western region are planning to cause chaos during the funeral service. He went on to urge security officers to maintain order during Mr. Wafula Chebukati’s burial.
Considering this during his requiem mass Mr Wafula Chebukati Wanyonyi was eulogised by his family.
His wife said,
“My husband led a quiet, respectful life, and we will be happy if we bury him in peace and with respect. It has not been easy for us as a family, but we thank the government for the support that has helped us stay strong during this period,” said the widow.”
Who Will Attend Chebukati’s Burial?
President William Ruto is expected to attend the burial of the former IEBC chairman. This is due to his holding Mr. Chebukati in high regard.
“I have received the news of the passing of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairperson Wafula Chebukati with profound sorrow. Chebukati was a principled and diligent leader who served the nation with integrity. His death is a great loss to our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Rest In Peace.”
Apart from the president several political leaders are expected to be present to his burial.
Additionally, the Kwanza MP Mr. Ferdinand Wanyonyi urged the public to attend the Saturday’s burial in large numbers.
