Kisii Governor Arati Launches KSh 300M Bursary for 60,000 Students

Simba Arati launched a major bursary distribution exercise across Kisii County. The programme targets thousands of needy students for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Moreover, the county government has already begun issuing cheques through public forums. These events aim to ensure transparency and direct engagement with residents.

Ongoing Bursary Distribution Across Wards

Currently, distribution forums are taking place in different constituencies across the county. For instance, South Mugirango residents gathered at Nyamarambe Stadium on April 7, 2026.

Similarly, Monyerero Ward has already issued bursaries to Form 3 and Form 4 students. As a result, many families have received timely financial relief for school fees.

Overall, the programme aims to support approximately 60,000 students across all 45 wards. Therefore, it remains one of the largest education support initiatives in the region.

Increased Education Funding Boosts Access

Since taking office, Governor Arati has significantly increased education funding. Previously, the county allocated KSh 145 million during the 2022/2023 financial year.

However, the current allocation has risen to KSh 300 million for 2025/2026. This increase reflects a strong commitment to improving education access.

Additionally, most eligible students receive a minimum bursary of KSh 5,000. The funds mainly target Form 3, Form 4, and vocational training students.kisii

Special Scholarships for Top Students

Besides bursaries, the county offers the Elimu na Simba Scholarship programme. This initiative supports bright but needy students with full four-year sponsorship.

Specifically, beneficiaries must score 350 marks and above in KCPE. Consequently, the programme promotes academic excellence and equal opportunities.

Application Process and Requirements

Applicants can access bursary forms through ward offices across Kisii County. Typically, the county releases these forms in January each year.

Parents or guardians must complete the forms for deserving students. Additionally, officials may verify residency using voter registration records.

This process ensures fairness and accountability during allocation.

A Lifeline for Thousands of Families

Ultimately, the bursary programme continues to transform lives across Kisii County. Furthermore, it reduces financial pressure on families struggling with school fees.

As distribution continues, more students will gain access to education opportunities. Therefore, the initiative highlights the county’s long-term investment in human capital.
