Bien Makes History as First Kenyan Solo Artist at Afro Nation Portugal

Kenyan music star Bien-Aimé Baraza made history as the first Kenyan solo artist to perform at Afro Nation Portugal 2026. Specifically, taking the stage in Portimão, Algarve, his Day 1 performance broadened the festival’s soundscape, which is traditionally dominated by West and South African acts. Furthermore, Bien shared the star-studded lineup with global heavyweights including Burna Boy, Tyla and Gunna.

Holding His Own on the World’s Biggest Stage

Bien performed confidently alongside some of the continent’s biggest names. Specifically, while Burna Boy captivated the crowd with signature hits and a surprise birthday serenade.

Tyla delivered an energetic Amapiano-infused set, Bien carved out his own space and gave East African music powerful global representation.

A Full Kenyan Takeover

Bien transformed his set into a celebration of Kenyan identity. Specifically, he brought fellow artist Bensoul on stage to share the international spotlight. Furthermore, a Kenyan dance crew backed the performance, turning the moment into a display of national pride on the world’s biggest Afrobeats platform.

Additionally, fellow creatives including Charisma and actress Jackie Vike, known as Awinja, were spotted backstage, anchoring a strong Kenyan presence throughout the festival.

Why This Milestone Matters

Afro Nation Portugal is dominated by West and South African acts. Therefore, Bien’s booking and performance represents a breakthrough moment for East African music on the international festival circuit.

Consequently, his appearance opens the door for more Kenyan artists to access global Afrobeats stages.
