Three Survive After Train Overturns Lorry at Limuru Crossing

On Monday, July 6, 2026, three people escaped unhurt after a reversing train engine collided with a commercial lorry at the Limuru Railway Crossing in Kiambu County.

The collision overturned the canter truck, which was transporting bread and cakes near the Bata Shoe Company premises. Despite the heavy impact, all three occupants survived without injuries.

Reversing Train Hits Delivery Lorry

According to witnesses, the train engine was reversing from the Nakuru direction when it struck the lorry. The force of the collision flipped the truck onto its side.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no fatalities or serious injuries occurred.

Poor Visibility Reported

Witnesses said heavy morning fog reduced visibility around the railway crossing. The difficult weather conditions reportedly made it hard for the lorry driver to spot the approaching train.

In addition, the driver and several eyewitnesses alleged that the train operator did not sound the warning horn before the collision. Authorities have not yet confirmed those claims.

Residents Demand Better Safety Measures

Following the crash, residents called for stronger safety measures at the railway crossing. Many urged Kenya Railways and transport authorities to restore the manual barrier that previously controlled traffic.

They argued that the barrier helped prevent accidents before it was removed. Others also called for improved warning systems and better visibility at the crossing.

Investigations Underway

Authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are expected to examine the train’s operations, weather conditions, and safety procedures. The findings will help establish whether any safety regulations were breached.

Meanwhile, motorists have been urged to exercise extra caution when approaching railway crossings, especially during poor weather conditions. Road safety experts continue to encourage drivers to slow down, remain alert, and confirm that railway tracks are clear before crossing.
