Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn has been sentenced to life without parole for murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, in Ohio.

Flynn, 40, was convicted of multiple charges linked to Ashley’s February 2026 shooting at their Tipp City home. The 37-year-old teacher was shot in bed while their two young daughters remained inside the house.

Prosecutors argued that Flynn staged a home invasion to conceal his involvement. Initially, he told police an unknown intruder entered through the garage and killed Ashley.

However, investigators later uncovered digital evidence that challenged his account. The evidence included Apple Watch records, iPhone data, police body-camera footage and thousands of text messages.

Digital Evidence Exposes Murder Plot

Prosecutors also presented messages between Flynn and Alleigha Botner, a former church intern. Flynn was having an affair with Botner during his marriage to Ashley.

During the trial, Botner testified that Flynn had repeatedly discussed killing his wife. Prosecutors said one message showed Flynn considering ways to murder Ashley without going to prison.

The prosecution also presented AI-generated songs Flynn created for Botner during their relationship. Together, the evidence helped prosecutors establish a case of premeditated murder.

Flynn was convicted on nine charges, including murder, aggravated murder and tampering with evidence.

Daughters Deliver Emotional Statements

The case took an emotional turn during Monday’s sentencing hearing. Relatives read statements written by Flynn and Ashley’s daughters, aged nine and 11.

Both girls were inside the family home when their mother was killed. One daughter described Ashley as the “perfect person” before confronting her father.

The second daughter refused to call Flynn her father. She addressed him by his first name and said she would never visit him.

Flynn reportedly sobbed as the statements were read in court. He later apologized for his marital failures while maintaining that he did not kill Ashley.

“I made vows to Ashley on our wedding day. I failed those vows,” Flynn told the court.

Judge Orders Life Sentence

Presiding Judge Jeannine Pratt described Flynn as an extreme risk to public safety. She subsequently imposed the mandatory life sentence without parole.

Flynn’s defence lawyer, Patrick Mulligan, said the legal team plans to appeal the conviction. Mulligan argued that prosecutors did not provide enough evidence of advance planning.

The defence will now pursue the appeal through Ohio’s appellate court system. The case is expected to move forward as Flynn challenges his conviction and sentence.
