Police confirm at least two deaths and four survivors as teams continue searching the rubble in Eastleigh.

Rescue teams have recovered a second woman’s body from the Eastleigh building collapse rubble in Nairobi. The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the recovery on Tuesday as the search for trapped people continued.

The latest recovery brings the confirmed death toll to at least two. Meanwhile, police said rescuers had pulled four people alive from the collapsed multi-storey structure.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan announced the recovery of the first woman’s body on October 30. A multi-agency team remains at the site, with police supporting the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

Police urged members of the public to stay away from the affected area. The appeal aims to give emergency responders, specialised equipment and rescue personnel room to continue clearing debris.

Following the first recovery, Hassan called on disaster management teams to step up the rescue effort. He also urged relevant agencies to provide the resources needed to reach people still trapped.

The MP said families of missing people were anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones. He therefore called for faster rescue efforts while stressing the need to protect personnel working at the site.

In its update, the NPS expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and friends and wished the injured a full recovery. The service also said it would issue further updates as the operation progresses.
