Kenya Mourns Legendary Sports Commentator Diblo Kaberia

Veteran sports journalist Paul Kaberia, popularly known as Diblo or “El Mago,” has passed away.

His death was officially confirmed on Sunday, May 24, 2026, by fellow commentator Fred Arocho and the Radio Africa Group human resources department.

Consequently, tributes quickly flooded social media from football fans, journalists, and sports leaders across Kenya.

Kaberia Battled Long Illness

According to colleagues, Kaberia had battled a long illness for several months. The condition reportedly required continuous treatment and hospitalization.

Just days before his death, Kaberia appealed to fans for prayers through Facebook. On May 21, 2026, he posted an emotional message asking supporters to stand with him.

The veteran commentator wrote,

“I NEED YOUR PRAYERS MHAKIKI has been SICK.”

Additionally, sports journalists and close friends had organized fundraising efforts to support his medical expenses.

Diblo Built a Legendary Broadcasting Career

Kaberia leaves behind a celebrated career spanning more than two decades in sports broadcasting.

He joined Radio Jambo under Radio Africa Group in October 2008. Thereafter, he became one of the station’s most recognizable voices.

Fans widely admired his energetic Swahili football commentary. He covered the Kenyan Premier League, English Premier League, and UEFA Champions League matches passionately.
