Tomorrowland Mainstage Destroyed by Fire Before 2025 Festival
The iconic mainstage of Belgium’s Tomorrowland festival was severely damaged by a fire on Wednesday, just two days before the event was set to begin. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, but the blaze left the festival’s central stage in ruins.
How the Tomorrowland 2025 Fire Started
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene in Boom, Belgium, where thick plumes of smoke were visible rising from the site. A video shared widely online shows flames engulfing parts of the elaborate stage structure, known for its intricate designs and towering installations.

Eyewitness Accounts of the Incident
An eyewitness told Billboard the fire began suddenly and spread rapidly. “There was disbelief everywhere,” the witness said. “People thought it was part of the show at first. Then we saw the smoke getting darker and realized it wasn’t a drill.”
The incident occurred during a scheduled test run of pyrotechnics and lighting systems. Firefighters arrived at the grounds within minutes and successfully contained the fire before it spread to other parts of the festival venue. However, the damage to the mainstage was described as “extensive.”
Extent of the Damage to the Tomorrowland Mainstage Fire
According to CNN, local officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which they believe originated from a technical malfunction during the testing process. The public prosecutor’s office in Antwerp is overseeing the inquiry.
Organizers of Tomorrowland issued a statement late Wednesday, saying, “The incident deeply saddens us. The safety of our visitors, crew, and artists remains our top priority. We are working around the clock with all partners to assess the situation and prepare for the weekend.”
Impact on the Festival’s Schedule
Tomorrowland, one of the world’s largest electronic dance music festivals, attracts over 400,000 attendees from around the globe. Its mainstage is often the centerpiece of the festival, drawing attention for its massive size, advanced technology, and theatrical themes.
The Guardian reported that crews worked overnight to assess the structural integrity of what remains of the stage. Engineers are determining whether parts of it can be salvaged or if a scaled-down version will need to be constructed in time for the festival’s kick-off on Friday.
Belgium’s federal interior minister, Annelies Verlinden, praised the rapid response of emergency services. “Thanks to swift intervention, a greater disaster was avoided. Our thoughts are with the organizers and all the fans looking forward to this weekend.”
Meanwhile, festivalgoers are expressing concern over the event’s future. “I flew in from Brazil for this,” said one attendee. “I hope they can rebuild in time. Tomorrowland is more than a festival, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
As of Thursday morning, organizers have not announced any cancellations or significant program changes. Updates are expected later today after safety assessments are completed.
This year’s lineup includes top DJs like Martin Garrix, Amelie Lens, and David Guetta. It remains unclear whether all scheduled performances will proceed on the original stage or if alternative setups will be used.
