Former Borabu MP Ben Momanyi says he will contest in 2027, citing stalled projects and concerns over roads and healthcare.

Former Borabu MP Ben Momanyi has renewed his Nyamira governor bid ahead of the 2027 General Election. He accused Governor Amos Nyaribo’s administration of failing to meet residents’ expectations on development and essential services.

Speaking in Ibara, Kebirigo, Momanyi cited stalled projects, poor roads and declining healthcare services. He argued that residents had yet to experience the benefits of devolution under Nyaribo’s leadership.

Momanyi outlines Nyamira governor bid

Momanyi contested the county’s top seat in the 2022 General Election but lost to Nyaribo. However, he said that campaign helped him understand residents’ priorities and prepare for another attempt.

The former legislator said he had learned from the defeat and listened to what voters wanted. As a result, he considered himself better prepared to seek the county leadership in 2027.

His renewed bid places service delivery at the centre of his criticism of the current administration. Momanyi argued that the county’s annual allocations should translate into better services for residents.

Roads and hospitals draw criticism

On healthcare, Momanyi claimed that county hospitals lacked medicines, leaving residents struggling to access essential treatment. He also described roads as impassable and accused the administration of failing to complete development projects.

He linked those concerns to what he described as a wider failure to deliver on residents’ expectations. However, his remarks did not identify specific stalled projects, hospitals or roads.

Support for opposition to Ruto’s re-election

Beyond county politics, Momanyi declared support for the one-term movement opposing President William Ruto’s re-election. He criticised the national government over the cost of living and high taxes.

He also urged Kenyans to unite against a second term for the administration in 2027. His remarks set out his national political position alongside his renewed pursuit of the Nyamira governorship.

Meanwhile, Momanyi encouraged Nyamira residents to register as voters and make informed choices in the next election. He said the county’s future depended on choosing accountable leaders who prioritise development.
