Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has demanded an explanation from the Inspector-General of Police after his official security detail was reportedly withdrawn again.
The governor raised the matter on Thursday, October 15, 2026, seeking clarity over the recall of officers assigned to protect him. The reported withdrawal comes amid heightened political tensions following President William Ruto’s recent visit to Trans Nzoia.
Natembeya Questions Security Withdrawal
According to reports, the governor’s security officers were recalled abruptly, with the move marking a second withdrawal of his assigned protection.
Natembeya has demanded a formal explanation from Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja. He has also argued that decisions affecting his security should follow established procedures and provide clear reasons.
The governor maintains that he does not oppose lawful security reviews. However, he wants such decisions handled professionally, transparently and without political discrimination.
Cites Constitutional Right to Fair Treatment
Natembeya has cited Article 47 of the Constitution, which protects citizens’ right to fair administrative action.
He argues that police must explain their reasons for withdrawing his security detail. He also insists that authorities must follow due process before making such decisions.
The governor has pointed to previous court proceedings over the withdrawal of his protection.
In December 2025, the High Court ordered police to restore security details assigned to Natembeya and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale. Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued the orders pending further court proceedings.
Political Tensions in Trans Nzoia
The latest development follows a public disagreement between Natembeya and President Ruto over development projects, healthcare and the governor’s Tawe movement.
During his recent county tour, Ruto accused Natembeya of obstructing national government projects. The governor rejected the criticism and argued that political differences should not affect residents’ access to development.
The reported security withdrawal has also drawn criticism from opposition voices, including the Linda Mwananchi group, which questioned the timing and called for the governor’s protection.

Court Order Reported
National Television reportedly reported on October 15 that Justice Chacha Mwita had ordered the immediate restoration of Natembeya’s security detail.
The specific order could not be independently confirmed from the sources available for this report. Its terms and current status should therefore be checked against the court record before publication.
The dispute places renewed focus on the procedures governing security arrangements for elected officials and the need for transparent decision-making by public authorities.
