IEBC CEO Hussein Marjan Resigns
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission CEO Hussein Marjan has resigned from his post. Consequently, the commission begins a leadership transition.
Marjan served at IEBC since 2015 in senior executive roles. He said the decision followed consultations with top commission officials. However, he did not disclose specific reasons for stepping down. Instead, he described the exit as a mutual agreement.
In a farewell message, Marjan praised IEBC staff for professionalism. He expressed gratitude for years of cooperation and dedication. He highlighted the team’s performance during the 2022 General Election. Furthermore, he urged employees to uphold integrity during the transition. Marjan called the experience an honor and a privilege. Therefore, he encouraged staff to protect the commission’s constitutional mandate.
He previously served as Deputy CEO before becoming Commission Secretary. Throughout, he oversaw daily operations and election management.
IEBC Confirms Exit and Interim Plans
IEBC confirmed his resignation in a statement on February 3. Meanwhile, the commission promised to announce an interim CEO soon. Officials emphasized the importance of institutional preparedness. They reiterated commitment to credible and transparent elections.

Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua openly criticized Marjan. He expressed a lack of confidence in his leadership. Although the resignation followed internal consultations, timing raised political speculation. Nevertheless, IEBC insists the transition is structured and orderly.
