KQ Launches Special Dubai–Nairobi Repatriation Flight Amid Travel Disruptions

On March 5, 2026, Kenya Airways is operating a special repatriation flight from Dubai to Nairobi. Earlier, the outbound leg departed Nairobi for Dubai on March 4, 2026.

These flights are not part of regular schedules. Instead, authorities approved them following regional airspace disruptions.

Why the Special Flights Were Approved

Regional airspace closures on February 28 disrupted multiple international routes. Consequently, several passengers became stranded in the United Arab Emirates and Kenya.

In response, UAE authorities authorized limited, non-regular repatriation slots. Therefore, Kenya Airways secured approval to operate controlled evacuation flights. However, the airline has not resumed full commercial operations to Dubai.

Flight Details for March 5

The approved return route operates from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). Importantly, the flight strictly serves stranded citizens and residents of Kenya and the UAE. Thus, the airline prioritizes affected travelers over general ticket holders.

While authorities approved limited slots for March 4 and 5, capacity remains restricted. As a result, not all stranded passengers may secure seats immediately.UAE

Current Ticket Pricing Snapshot

Meanwhile, standard commercial fares remain elevated due to limited availability. For example, nonstop flights show varied pricing across airlines:

  • Etihad Airways: From US$497, approximately 5 hours nonstop.
  • Emirates: From US$621, roughly 5 hours nonstop.
  • Kenya Airways: From US$1,273, about 5 hours 15 minutes nonstop.

However, these fares apply to regular commercial bookings, not special repatriation slots.

Key Instructions for Affected Passengers

First, passengers in Dubai should not proceed to the airport without confirmation. Instead, they must wait for direct communication from Kenya Airways.

Additionally, travelers should monitor updates using the airline’s official flight status tools.

Furthermore, customers must update contact details in the Manage Booking section. This ensures the airline can share real-time boarding instructions.

What This Means for Travelers

Although services have partially resumed, regular Nairobi–Dubai operations remain suspended. Therefore, travelers should expect continued schedule adjustments in the coming days.

Ultimately, the repatriation flight offers temporary relief while broader regional airspace stability improves.
