Simba Arati Unveils Multi-Billion Machinery to Transform Kisii Roads
On March 18, 2026, Simba Arati launched a multi-billion shilling machinery fleet. The event took place at Gusii Stadium after a procession through Kisii town.
Consequently, the county is shifting from private contractors to owning equipment. This move aims to improve efficiency and reduce infrastructure development costs.
New Machinery to Boost Roads and Waste Management
The county unveiled an initial fleet of 32 road construction machines. These include 15 graders, eight excavators, and five rollers.
Additionally, the fleet features three wheel loaders and one bulldozer. Garbage-collecting tractors will also enhance waste management services.
Furthermore, the county introduced 26 motorbikes for agricultural officers. These bikes will improve mobility and service delivery in rural areas.
Additional Equipment Expected Soon
Moreover, Kisii County plans to expand the machinery fleet further. An additional 54 machines will arrive in the next phase.
These include 20 tippers, two fuel tankers, and two water bowsers. The county will also receive prime movers and tool trucks. Therefore, the expansion will strengthen construction and logistics capacity.
Job Creation and Economic Opportunities
The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities. Initially, about 120 machine operators will secure jobs.
Additionally, the Kazi Mashinani Programme will engage approximately 1,500 manual workers. Consequently, the initiative will boost household incomes and local economies.

Infrastructure Development and Connectivity
Governor Arati pledged to improve road networks across the county. He stated that impassable roads will soon become a thing of the past.
The county plans to rehabilitate existing roads and open new access routes. Therefore, all sub-counties and wards will benefit from better connectivity.
Improved roads will also support agricultural transport, including milk delivery.Thus, farmers will access markets more efficiently.
Mechanical Site and Long-Term Impact
The county has earmarked land near the Kisii Cancer Centre for a mechanical site. This facility will provide technical support and training for the machinery fleet.
Consequently, Kisii aims to build long-term capacity in infrastructure development.
