Manchester United Hit by Late Cunha Injury Scare Ahead of Everton Clash
Manchester United face fresh injury concerns after forward Matheus Cunha emerged as a late doubt for Monday night’s Premier League match against Everton at Old Trafford.
Cunha was expected to start, but he reportedly picked up a minor knock during Saturday’s training session at Carrington. He later withdrew from a scheduled appearance at a Christmas lights event in Altrincham, where organisers said he suffered an “accident in training.”
“Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch On in Altrincham due to medical reasons,” Visit Altrincham announced on social media.
United are already without striker Benjamin Sesko, who is sidelined for several weeks with a knee injury. The Slovenian forward left the pitch late during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham before the international break.
Manager Ruben Amorim, speaking on Friday, said Sesko’s injury was not serious but insisted the club must handle his recovery carefully. He expects the striker to return around the time Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo travel for AFCON duty.
With Sesko out and Cunha doubtful, Joshua Zirkzee could make his first start of the season.
Harry Maguire has also been ruled out, while Kobbie Mainoo was being assessed after missing Friday’s training session. Lisandro Martinez, meanwhile, could feature for the first time since February after recovering from an ACL injury.
United’s Form Improves as Everton Await
Despite an injury-hit squad, United appear to be regaining momentum under Amorim. They sit just one point off the Champions League places heading into the weekend.
Everton, winless away from home since August, visit Old Trafford on Monday. Amorim, however, warned against underestimating David Moyes’ side.
“In our league, the table doesn’t matter,” he said. “Everything is tight, and nothing is straightforward. The run of fixtures is irrelevant in the Premier League.”
