The Education Ministry has arranged exams for hospitalised learners and inmates, while relocating two centres over insecurity in Moyale.

Seven hospitalised candidates and five learners in correctional facilities are sitting the 2026 KCSE examinations under special government arrangements. The Ministry of Education organised the support to help them participate despite their circumstances.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba outlined the measures in a statement on November 2. He said the ministry had arranged delivery and administration of examination papers for the seven hospitalised candidates. It also facilitated examinations for the five candidates in correctional facilities.

Meanwhile, the ministry relocated two examination centres in Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County. The move followed insecurity linked to clan clashes along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

Ogamba said the government stood ready to take further action to protect the examination process. He also pledged continued support to help candidates complete their papers as challenges arise.

2026 KCSE reaches over one million candidates

A total of 1,048,355 candidates are taking this year’s examinations at 10,693 centres across Kenya. Compulsory papers with large numbers of candidates began on November 2, after two weeks of elective subject examinations.

Ogamba commended candidates, contracted examination professionals and members of the public for supporting the exercise. He also urged Kenyans to report suspected examination fraud and malpractice to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Members of the public can make reports through KNEC’s toll-free numbers, 0800721410 and 0800724900. The ministry said these channels would help safeguard examination integrity and ensure results reflect learners’ actual performance. It also reaffirmed its readiness to respond to emerging challenges throughout the examination period.
